How to Prepare for Your Blood Draw

By TeQuaidas Clinical Team

A handful of small choices in the 24 hours before your draw can change panel values meaningfully. Here is what we ask patients to do.

The day before - Eat normally unless your provider ordered a fasting panel (lipids, glucose, insulin). - Limit alcohol — it shifts liver enzymes and triglycerides for up to 48 hours. - Stay hydrated. Hydrated veins make the draw faster and reduce hemolysis.

The morning of - If fasting: water, black coffee without cream, and prescribed medications only. - Wear a short-sleeve top or one that rolls easily above the elbow. - Have your photo ID and requisition handy.

After the draw - Keep the bandage on for ~30 minutes. - Avoid heavy lifting on that arm for a few hours. - Bruising is normal and resolves within a few days.
